BEFORE INSTALLATION

Whether you're constructing an office building or a personal residence in Connecticut, you'll need to consider how to incorporate waste disposal into your design. The Department of Public Health has a strict process to follow whenever you alter an existing waste disposal system or install a new septic tank. The steps required include the following:

  1. Contact a septic installer. In Connecticut, septic tank installers must have a license and insurance to design and install a septic system. ADB Construction & Septic is fully licensed and insured, ready to help you with your septic system installation.

  2. Have a soil test completed. Sometimes referred to as Percs and Deep Hole, it involves digging holes in your yard to measure how long it takes water to absorb into the surrounding soil. A sanitarian from the health department will read the soil and give us a report on the size and depth of the new system.

  3. Design your septic system. With the information supplied by the sanitarian, ADB Septic will come up with a new system design that fits the location and requirements from the health department. We will use the information gleaned from the soil test, in combination with other data, to determine how big your septic tank should be.

  4. Review the costs involved with your installer. You should receive a service quote that establishes the total cost of the installation—including the cost of labor and materials.

  5. Apply for a permit. Once you approve the service quote, your installer will apply for a permit through your local health department. After the septic system has been installed, we will need to submit a final inspection to ensure that it functions as intended.

PROS AND CONS OF A SEPTIC SYSTEM

Home septic systems are cost-effective and durable (when properly installed and maintained). They are also environmentally friendly, because they remove bacteria and recycle water back into the soil, and they can increase your home's water-efficiency.

Periodic maintenance includes pumping the tank every 3-5 years. There is potential for backed-up drains and ruptured pipes. Fortunately, regular maintenance can help identify and prevent problems before they become major issues.

TWO TYPES OF SEPTIC SYSTEMS

CONVENTIONAL SYSTEM

Wastewater is treated in the tank, with heavier solids being broken down by bacteria at the bottom of the tank and partially treated water dispersed to the drainfield.

ALTERNATIVE SYSTEMS

Alternative systems still use tanks but also incorporate other methods to further treat the wastewater, account for high water table or poor soil, and produce a cleaner end result.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT TYPE OF SEPTIC SYSTEM

The type of septic system you need will be determined by the size and layout of your property, as well as the results of the soil test and other factors.

  • Conventional septic systems are designed using a single underground tank that partially treats wastewater and dispels it into an adjacent leaching system.

  • Alternative systems may be necessary if your yard has poor drainage or an unusually high water table. These systems vary widely in design and may use an extra holding tank or a different configuration to treat wastewater more effectively.

ADB Construction and Septic has more than three decades of experience in the construction and maintenance of residential septic systems. We offer affordable, long-lasting septic tank installation services to the city of Manchester, Hartford County, and other Central Connecticut areas. We are your experts in septic system services and provide septic inspections, routine maintenance, and septic tank replacement services to Connecticut residents.

CAN I DIY MY NEW SEPTIC TANK?

Please don't. Septic tanks are essentially containers of large quantities of wastewater and raw sewage buried next to your house...and your neighbors. Mistakes can be costly and dangerous, such as E. coli outbreaks and accidentally unearthed power lines.

Need a new or replacement septic system for your commercial property? We can handle that.
